PERSIAN FESTIVAL

Welcome to "Shahrivargaan" Day on N.Van 2024

Iranians have been celebrating various occasions for thousands of years and have had many cultural festivals, each of which is held annually or seasonally. One of the ways to get to know the culture of Iranians is to learn about their ancient celebrations, as evidenced by thousands of stone documents and inscriptions as well as ancient artifacts.

Iranian celebrations and ceremonies are very attractive and magnificent, each with its own story and history. Every celebration is essentially a sacred occasion. These celebrations and ceremonies were based on Zoroastrian customs and rituals, such as sharing food and drinks and friendly gatherings, which have been preserved from the past.

The Shahrivargaan festival, also known as the Azar festival, is held on the fourth day of Shahrivar (the sixth month of the Iranian calendar, which is the last month of summer). Shahrivargaan is also considered the day of the ancient Iranian fathers. This celebration is one of the 12 monthly masterpieces of Iranians and is part of the Iranian water festivals.

Historically, Shahrivargaan coincides with the birthdays of Shah Darab (King Dariush) and Majesty Mani. The rituals of this celebration include lighting a fire, gathering together, and sharing food with the needy.

This year’s theme is significant because history creates memories, generates emotional connections with the ability to transcend generations via storytelling, and keeps traditions and important values alive while bridging the past with the present. We are drawn to history because its story is our story, where we can learn from the past to create a better future together.

Since one of the rituals of "Shahrivargaan" festival is gathering together and sharing food with the needy, we can create memories, stories, and history together. We ask festival attendees to bring non-perishable donations and hand them over to the Salvation Army, who will be present at the venue to help distribute them to those in need. This festival is inspired by the spirit of giving.

History is indeed a witness to time, the light of truth, the life of memory, the teacher of life, and the messenger of antiquity. History is Life’s Teacher
